Ep141: Narcolepsy: A Different Way of Living with Narcolepsy with Sheila Digout

OVERVIEW

Today’s episode is in honor of the World Narcolepsy Day happening this September 22nd. To celebrate this event, we invited Sheila Digout, the Wake Up Narcolepsy Canada Group support leader. 

Sheila was diagnosed with Narcolepsy type 1 at the age of 45, after decades of symptoms. She had to give up her career too soon because of her disorder. She also experienced embarrassing treatment from friends and workmates. 

Sadly, Sheila is not the only one out there. Several people who are going through the same disorder are feeling shame, fear, loneliness, and grief. Sheila’s hope is that, through research, education, and advocacy, the road to diagnosis will become less daunting for others with the same sickness. 

In this episode, we are going to discover why most narcoleptic people never share their disorder with anyone. How they are treated by the people around them and what they need to go through to battle narcolepsy.
