Ep058: What will happen to our metabolism system after nights of poor sleep?--with Dr. Benedict
TODAY’S GUEST
Dr. Christian Benedict is a Docent in neuroscience at Uppsala University, where he studies the importance of sleep for health and performance. Christian has received several scientific awards for his sleep research, including the Oscar prize from Uppsala University and the Young Sleep Researcher Award from the German Society for Sleep Medicine. He has also presented his research at several international conferences and is known for conveying facts and knowledge about sleep in a pedagogical and entertaining manner.
His research focuses on the crosstalk between the brain and peripheral pathways involved in body weight regulation and nutrient metabolism, and how this crosstalk is affected by lifestyle changes (e.g. sleep loss). To increase public awareness of the importance of sleep for mental and physical health, I have written a popular-scientific book.
WHAT WILL WE LEARN
What is happening in our bodies when we don’t get enough sleep?
How is impulse control affected by the amount of sleep you get?
On the weekend can I catch up on sleep I missed during the week?
Take home point:
More consistent sleeping every night is better for us than trying to catch up on sleep.
